Commerce Banks 2nd Annual Toys for Tots Partnership
For the second consecutive year, Commerce Bank played an important role in the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. During 2007 Commerce Bank was one of the top contributors in the Central Massachusetts region and because of this generosity thousands of needy children received Christmas presents.
On December 5th, 2007 Brian Thompson, President and CEO of Commerce Bank presented the first donation check of the ongoing campaign to U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Andrew Herzberg, Assistant Coordinator for Toys for Tots Worcester Country Division, (pictured at right).
Mr. Thompson stated, “We are so pleased to once again support this very worthy cause. All of our employees participate in this outstanding effort to gather toys and funds throughout the season so these needy families can enjoy the holiday.”
The “Toys for Tots” program nationally distributes 19.2 million toys to 7.6 million children. In New England 3.4 million toys are distributed to 1.6 million children. In Worcester County alone, 31,000 toys distributed to over 15,000 children.
On April 3rd, 2008, First Sergeant Michael Frisoli USMCR (Ret.), returned to thank Commerce Bank for our participation in the Toys for Tots drive. Chairman David "Duddie" Massad and President Brian Thompson were presented with a plaque which reads
Presented to Commerce Bank for superior support to the 60th Anniversary Toy Drive Marine Corp Reserve Toys For Tots Program 1947-2007 Presented by the Officers and Enlisted Marines of the 25th Marine Regiment 4th Marine Division.
and a certificate that says:

Ron Burton’s Training Village
Recently, our very own Len Anctil, Vice President and Commercial Loan Officer at Commerce Bank visited Ron Burton’s Training Village. Located in Hubbardston, MA this facility is oriented towards young men aged 11-17, teaching them core values and life lessons to carry with them as they enter adulthood.
Ron Burton’s Training Village was started by Ron Burton Sr. who passed away in 2003. Ron Sr. played football for what was then the Boston Patriots. After he retired, he traveled the country as a motivational speaker within the John Hancock Company.
Ron then decided that it was time to reach out to young men. He purchased a 400 acre estate in Hubbardston and created what is now an overnight camp that hosts the 5 week Training Village program. The 5 weeks consist of many athletic endeavors including a 4:30 a.m. wake up call every week day, to start the morning with a 7-8 mile run.
The camp focuses on 4 main qualities to instill in these young men. Love, Peace, Patience and Humility are cornerstones of Ron Sr.’s beliefs and are now part of a tradition taught to today’s youth at the camp. Ron Jr., assisted by brothers Paul and Steve, run the camp now and receive large charitable donations from The Boston Red Sox in order to continue the camps success.
Len Anctil sees Ron Burton’s Training Village as a place that “teaches boys how to become men”, and we are proud of Len and all others who volunteer and assist at the camp.
Commerce Bank extends its appreciation and gratitude to all those who make this camp possible and contribute in positive ways to America’s youth. |
